To promote water harvesting in Gujarat, the state government has taken several innovative measures in the interests of farmers. If geomembrane is made and fitted in water scarcity areas, rainwater can be stored during monsoons to save crops and water can be used in rabi irrigation. Thus, additional irrigation of farmers’ crops can be achieved through the water stored in khettalavadi and the consumption of ground water can be reduced by getting more crop production.
Good news for farmers
For this, it has been decided to provide benefits by installing geomembrane in the farm ponds dug by farmers at their own expense in ten water-scarce districts of the state. A total of 10 districts including Banaskantha, Mehsana, Patan, Kutch, Rajkot, Botad, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Narmada and Dang have been included under this scheme.
Minister Rishikeshbhai Patel announced
Spokesperson Minister Rishikeshbhai Patel said, ‘The state government has taken another important decision in the interest of the sons of Gujarat.
